New Delhi: Security agencies have issued a high alert after intelligence inputs suggested that Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) may be planning an improvised explosive device (IED) attack near Delhi’s Red Fort and other prominent religious locations across the country, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Intelligence Inputs Raise Concerns
Sources indicated that the suspected plot could target high-profile areas, including locations in Old Delhi. Investigators believe the group may be attempting to carry out attacks to avenge a recent mosque blast in Islamabad that left dozens dead and many injured.
Authorities have not issued an official public advisory yet, but internal security coordination has reportedly intensified across sensitive zones.
Background: Previous Red Fort Explosion
The latest alert comes months after a deadly car explosion near the historic Red Fort in November 2025, which resulted in multiple casualties and injuries. Investigators had arrested several suspects in connection with that case, and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) continues its probe.
Security agencies are now examining whether the current intelligence inputs are linked to earlier terror modules or represent a fresh threat network.
Heightened Security Measures Across Delhi
Police and central security forces have reportedly increased surveillance in crowded marketplaces, religious places, and transport hubs in the national capital. Officials are monitoring online activity and communication channels to trace potential threats.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information on social media while investigations continue.
